Alien 05:14
ALIEN - lyrics by Jamie Fielding Changing back an alien Certain things that shed their skin Often grow like climbing odds It seems a choice of tails and heads Satisfaction not provided Certain things have been decided The opposites preserve the masters They're partners in the same disasters Not forgot but best forgotten Moving slowly turning rotten If you put a thought aside It might be ours that’s there instead Changing back again’s like waiting Gone are all the brief connections Waking slowly turning over So slowly waking up forever, ever Changing back an alien Certain things that shed their skins Seems a choice of tails and heads Opposites preserve the masters They're partners in the same disasters Certain things have been decided Changing back an alien

about

Transwaste - an industrial rock band from Melbourne, Australia, 1984.

In short; early ’84 for a few months the band was named Selvetex, the music sounded jazzy/no wave. A couple of months in Dianne Spence - tenor sax, moved back to Sydney. Gavan Dunn was then invited in on baritone sax, the material took on a harder edge and politic, we became Recent Theft. Thru the urban winter we started to reflect the sounds around us by bringing in found objects/junk instruments to play: car bonnets and doors, bits of metal, junk guitars to be threaded with metal sheet to be beaten thru strings and shredded by discarded kitchen utensils and such. The music became deeper, rawer, and more trance like. Jamie Fielding was on a roll lyric writing & playing synth. Bass player James Boddington had also taken on a drum machine - the Drumulator. Gavan Dunn was dragging in car doors & bonnets as well as playing baritone sax. Peter Jones and I both had dish-washing jobs where the last chore of the shift was to empty the day's garbage into the industrial Transwaste bin, hence the name.

Transwaste - Collection serves as a 'Best Of'. These tracks have been previously released on Jamie Fielding's ltd ed. 3 Cd set - Notes from the Underground - AIJA 006-08. I wanted Collection re-released as a stand-alone item in honour of the creative efforts of the band, and, in respect of and to the families of, Jamie (1960-93), Gavan (1960-2010) and Peter (1963-2012).

Jamie went on to tour Australia with Sandy Evans band - Women and Children First. Gavan led his own band - King Idiot, and, the Sacre Coeur, then moved to Bangkok. Peter played in Harem Scarem and then later Crowded House. James became a successful photographer, and I joined Ollie Olsen & Marie Hoy's band NO - Michael Sheridan.
